If you have a small drone of less than 55 pounds, you can fly recreationally by following Drone Laws in the USA defined by 49 USC 44809. In Washington DC, recreational UAS operations (i.e., flying for recreational purposes) are approved under law, specifically 49 USC 44809. Please check the specific state jurisdiction for additional permissions
Weight is only for registration. Any drone over 250g HAS to be registered. After Sept 16th 2023 ALL DRONES…. (FPV to DJI Minis) have to have RID to legally fly. There are no if’s and’s or but’s. If you are going to fly drones, this time next year you will have to have RID on whatever drone you are flying.
