Re: Extension Tubes on 100mm 2.8 L macro. In reply to quadrox • Apr 27, 2011. Adding a set of 25mm + 12mm tubes will get the magnification to about 1.6x. That's not a large magnification increase, but it may match the framing of the subject to the sensor better, which is important to get more pixels on the subject. Regards, Bill.
Extension Tube EF 25 II. May 21, 2018. I have been out of this hobby for a while, but recently picked up my 7D again and started working on taking pictures for another hobby. My main lens is the EF-S 17-55 and I have found I would like to get in closer to capture more details and different angles.
You would not lose much light using the Canon Extension Tube EF 12 II on the Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 EF-S USM lens. The effect the extension tube would have on your image is you would lose infinity focus, however, it would allow you to focus closer on your subject for higher magnification for macro or close-up photography needs.
On the cheap I'd recommend a telezoom like 70-300VR or a longer prime; if you want more magnification, you can add a relatively weak achromat diopter, like the +2 Canon 250D or the +3 Marumi achromat 330, or an extension tube (mind it must be relatively long to help much, and there are known issues with using stacks of extension tubes and heavy
